Salman Khan tops Bollywood Tax payer’s list, followed by Kapil Sharma, Karan Johar and Akshay Kumar

Bajrangi Bhai, Salman Khan paid an advance tax of Rs 44.5 crore for 2016-17, up 39 per cent from Rs 32 crore in 2015-16. Not surprisingly, Comedian Kapil Sharma bags another major position in the advance tax strata.

The impeccable producer, Karan Johar and the dynamic actor Alia Bhatt entered  list of top ten Bollywood celebrity advance-tax payers for the financial year 2016-17, the financial data says.

Sultan, which was released last July, became one of the highest grosser. The movie earned over Rs 500 crore worldwide. At second position is Akshay Kumar, who paid Rs 29.5 crore as advance tax for the year. Akshay Kumar had a hattrick of stellar performances this year. From Rustom, Airlift and Jolly LLB 2, the Khilaadi has stunned one and all.

The stand-up comedian cum actor cum producer has paid an advance tax of Rs 23.9 crore in 2016-17, up 241 per cent from Rs 7 crore in 2015-16.

Advance tax is paid by individuals if the tax liability on estimated income is likely to exceed Rs 10,000 during the financial year. This tax liability is calculated after considering tax deducted at source (TDS). According to norms under the Income-Tax Act, non-corporate assessees have to pay 30 per cent of their total advance tax in the second quarter, followed by 30 per cent and 40 per cent in the next two quarters, respectively, on their projected earnings.

To join the highest payers, are other actors like Hrithik Roshan, Aamir Khan, Ranbir Kapoor has paid advance tax of Rs 25.5 crore this fiscal and Ranbir Kapoor paid Rs 16.5 crore.

Deepika Padukone paid an advance tax of Rs 10.25 crore. Alia Bhatt and Kareena Kapoor Khan paid an advance tax of Rs 4.33 crore and Rs 3.9 crore respectively.

Aamir Khan paid a higher advance tax of Rs 14.8 crore in 2016-17, up 54 per cent which was cashed in on the mega-blockbuster Dangal, which earned about Rs 730 crore, breaking every record in Bollywood.
