Sardar Vallabhbahi Patel passed his matriculation (10th class) at age of 22. At this age, children usually complete their college.

It is very interesting that the real birthday of Sardar Patel is unknown. This date is used as his birth date as he mentioned only this date his matriculation examination paper.

Due to his efforts for unifying 500 princely states in India into one nation, 31 October has been observed as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas (National Unity Day) by the government of India from year 2014.

He was leader of the Indian National Congress. He was first Home Minister and Deputy Prime Minister of free India.

To become a barrister, Sardar Patel worked hard and saved funds. He stayed away from his family and he pursued his degree by studying from the books borrowed from other lawyers.

He was so dedicated to his profession. When he got to know about the death of his wife, he was cross-examining a witness in court. He continued the proceeding and won the case and then declared the death of his wife.

In 1918, Sardar Vallabhbhai led “No Tax Campaign”. Under this campaign, he urged the farmers not to pay taxes after the British insisted on tax after the floods in Kaira which turnedout very successful.

Patel joined Gandhi’s Non-Cooperation Movement. He travelled around West India to recruit 3,00,000 members and also helped in collecting in more than ₹ 1.5 million party fund.

To preserve the unity and integrity of the nation, India celebrates Rashtriya Ekta Diwas. It is observed on birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. This year, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced Run for Unity to commemorate the birth anniversary of Vallabhbhai Patel. He is undoubtedly the reason behind republic of India.

The event will start from 7 AM and ends at 8 AM on October 31 at Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium. It is a voluntary act in which ministry officials are asked to run. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will also run to pay the tribute. Apart from run, the offering Floral Tribute to Sardar Patel at Patel Chowk and administering Pledge will be done.

In fact, PM Modi also appealed public to participate in the Run for Unity events. These events will be organized across India. Praising his efforts, Narendra Modi said “Patel had the quality of not only giving course-changing ideas but also coming up with solutions for difficult situations. To execute his ideas – that was Patel’s expertise.”
