Shah Rukh Khan, Naseeruddin Shah, Tabu in the list of 20 Indian artists to get invitation from Oscar Academy 2018
Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has invited twenty Indian film personalities as the body behind the Oscars. The organization has invited 928 new members from 59 different countries. To seek diversity from across the globe, the Academy invites members. The invitation has been made to the people who have distinguished themselves by their contributions to theatrical motion pictures.
Indians who got invitation this year
The actors on the list are Naseeruddin Shah, Shah Rukh Khan, Madhabi Mukherjee, Soumitra Chatterjee, Madhuri Dixit, Ali Fazal, Anil Kapoor and Tabu. It also has Indian producers Aditya Chopra and Guneet Monga. Cinematographer Anil Mehta, costume designers Dolly Ahluwalia and Manish Malhotra, sound Debajit Changmai and Biswadeep Chatterjee also made to the list. Others are production designers Subrata Chakraborty and Amit Ray, editor Ballu as well as the music composers Usha Khanna and Sneha Khanwalkar.
In 2017, Aamir Khan, Priyanka Chopra, Irrfan, Amitabh Bachchan, Deepika Padukone, Aishwarya Rai, Mrinal Sen and Goutam Ghose and Sooni Taraporevala were also in the list of invitees.
Talking about the previous records, 322 were invited in 2015 and 683 new members in 2016. The membership to Academy is available only by invitation. But, not everyone accept the membership. According to Hollywood reporter,” Forty-nine percent of the class of 2018 are female, and, should all accept membership, that will bring overall percentage of women in the Academy to 31 percent. Thirty-eight percent of the new members are people of color, bringing their overall percentage in the Academy to 16 percent.”
