Rajguru was born in Khed in Pune now it is known as Rajgurunagar in his honor. He took a part in the murder of a British officer J.P Saunders at Lahore with his friends Sukhdev, Bhagat Singh. The reason behind the murder to take revenge for the death of their leader Lala Lajpat Rai who died due to injuries during an excessive police beating. British Govt got sufficient evidence against him in the Saunders case after trial by Special Tribunal, and an appeal to the Privy Council in England. He was convicted and hanged for his participation in the assassination, at the age of 23.
His legacy prompted youth in India to continue fighting for independence and he remains an influence on some young people in modern India, His birthplace of Khed has since been renamed as Rajgurunagar in his honor. Rajguru Market, a shopping complex at Hisar, Haryana, was named in his honor in 1953.
