South Indian Muslims More Inclined to IS Ideology, than North Indian

Kiren Rijiju Union Minister of State in his TV interview triggered another controversy, with a remark that South Indian Muslims are more attracted towards Islamic State (IS) ideologies, than their counterparts from Northern India. The remark was to highlight threat to India, which the terror group can strike in any part of the country.

Rijiju in his statement which goes like; “It is a reality (some south Indian Muslims getting attracted to ISIS). It is a fact. But we should not undermine our vigil in other parts of the country,” said so answering the possibility of ISIS being a ‘lone wolf’. The remark came out on 7th anniversary of Mumbai attack.

However, he later said that the threat must not be looked from regional standpoint; rather it must be looked from an Indian point of view. Assuring, necessary steps are underway so that diabolical plans can be prevented.

Rijiju’s remark receives a support from PTI report which reveals that, a 23 Indians have joined ISIS out of which 6 were reported to be killed in several incidents, three among them are natives of Karnataka, while remaining were natives of Maharashtra, UP and Telangana.

Replying on Governments planning to meet the threat, Rijiju said “Anything that threatens the security of the country is taken seriously and the home ministry’s mandate is to provide security to the people and the country.”
