The 32nd Surajkund Crafts Mela 2018 is scheduled to start on 2nd February and will go on until 18th of February in Haryana’s Faridabad district. This year, the theme state will be Uttar Pradesh and the focus will be on safety and security of children. At least 20 countries and all the states of India will participate in the fair.
The event will have many child-friendly procedures like the facility of crèche for children of officials and workers, breastfeeding booths, ‘lost and found’ counter, first aid booth, and stalls for children with special needs. The fair is organized by the Surajkund Mela Authority in collaboration with ministries of tourism, textile, External Affairs, and Haryana tourism.

In a recent announcement, Tourism Minister Ram Bilas Sharma revealed that the fair will advocate the rights of children through hoardings and will provide material on child rights. The entire focus of the event will be on ensuring the safety of children below the age of 14.
Aimed at promoting crafts, the fair receives a footfall of more than a million visitors every year, out of which several are from foreign countries. It’s a platform that acts as a hub for the skilled craftsmen and artisans from across the country and other SAARC nations who participate in the event to showcase their talent.
Every year, a theme state is selected and then it’s given an opportunity to display its handicrafts, architecture, arts, cuisine, and its tourist potential. It offers a platform where different cultures blend together and are represented in an impressive manner. The entire look of the venue from the entrance to the ground and from décor to furniture is purely inspired by the theme state.
