Transport Union strike in Karnataka; Normal life hampered

The normal life in Bengaluru city is been off-track on Monday morning in the state of Karnataka as a major part of the state road transport corporations were on strike. The IT capital faced a lot of trouble as over one lakh employees commenced an indefinite strike, seeking a hike in wages.

The strike started since Sunday midnight, many people didn’t have a clue about it. People waiting for the buses could be seen easily on the stops while many passengers from different cities wishing to return back were stranded at the city’s main bus terminal, Kempegowda bus stand.

Similar reports of passengers facing trouble in traveling were received from different parts of the state. The situation was so distraught that several authorities like schools and offices had to keep the day off in the state.

The main demand of the workers is a hike of 35 percent along with other 40 demands while the state government has offered only 10 percent rises in wages.

The Transport Minister, Ramalinga Reddy, also had several meetings with the State unions but none came out with a result as both the parties were adamant with their choices. Reddy said that “We are still open for discussion with the unions. They have to come for a discussion with an open mind. They will also have to understand the financial situation and reconsider their demand of 35 per cent wage hike. We are ready for discussion at the chief ministerial level.”

Meanwhile, reports of stone pelting incidents on the buses in several parts of the state were also trending. Places like Hassan, Bengaluru, Ramanagara, Belagavi, Shivamogga, Koppal, and Chikkamagaluru have such reports.

The strike might result in a lot of disturbance in the city transport as the people are getting troubled and thus, are resorting to private means of transportation. In the time of need, the private transportation is charging high from the public which is very unfair and it is the common man is suffering in the whole scenario.
