Unnao Rape Victim’s letter to be taken under consideration by CJI tomorrow

The Supreme Court of India will take Unnao rape victim’s letter to Chief Justice of India realizing the threat to her life. SC will also question Secretary-General regarding the unavailability of this letter for so long.

The matter gathered pace when Senior Advocate V Giri who helps out the court in POCSO cases asked this issue to be studied urgently.

The sexual assault victim who is in a critical condition after she met with an accident in Rae Bareli, had tried to contact the CJI through a letter, that she and her family faced life threats from MLA Kuldeep Singh Sengar regarding the rape case. The CJI, Ranjan Gogoi, explained to the media, that he didn’t receive the letter earlier and will look into the matter soon.

The Secretary-General of SC, as asked by Justice Gogoi, will prepare a report in context to the victim’s letter. The bench of judges also asked the Uttar Pradesh government to file a status report in the case and seek a medical report of the victim.

The rape case victim’s letter described that some men of the MLA threatened the victim’s family with lives if they do not retract the case. In the letter, she also asked for the procedure of filing an FIR against their name. After the death of the victim’s father, her mother also pleaded to the SC to shift the cases to Delhi for her family’s protection. Two of these cases connects to the rape case incident while the third case is related to the death of her husband.
