Considering that the world environment day is just around the corner and the desert state is all set to welcome the monsoons, Rajasthan CM Vasundhara Raje stressed on the importance of rain water conservation today. Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan became the main highlight on the last day of Rajasthan collector SP conference. From a state that had struggled for every last drop of water, Rajasthan has successfully managed to break from its ‘dry, arid and barren’ image.

Phase II of MJSA (Jal Swavlamban) was launched in the first quarter of 2017. Under MJSA phase II, Rajasthan government intends to construct/repair 35,000 rainwater collection reservoirs in 4200 villages and 66 cities. On the last day of Rajasthan SP collector conference, chief minister Raje instructed the water department officers to wind up this project before the onset of monsoons in the state. More workers and engineers will be involved in this project so they can finish the pending projects in two shifts.

The state raised funds for MJSA through crowd funding. Wealth started pouring in from all sections of the society. Gradually, everyone including students, cops, soldiers, NGOs, NCC cadets, private firms, businessmen and religious bodies joined India’s biggest public rainwater harvesting drive.

To extend additional support, CM Raje volunteered to her one-month salary to this noble cause. Following this, many esteemed officers of state, including the cabinet ministers, chief secretary, additional chief secretaries, district collectors, senior police officers and other key officials of the state fell into her footsteps and volunteered to donate their monthly salaries.

The Massive Success of MJSA can be Rated by No. of Tankers and Dry Wells: CM Raje

After the successful completion of MJSA phase I, 265 dry, desolate wells of Bhilwara were restored. Water collected from the rainwater harvesting system brought about a spike in the underground water table. Consequently, 23 districts enjoyed enormous water supply.

Villages facing acute water scarcity requested 1551 tankers to fulfill their water requirement during summer. Nevertheless, this time they required just 674 tankers, as most areas had abundant water in tanks and reservoirs.
