Diwali is one such festival whose preparations start weeks before the main day; be it white-washing the house, getting new outfits, making arrangement for card parties or simply making those delicious sweets.

Amid all these feastings and celebrations, we tend to ignore the calorie intake of our body. Sugar coated sweets and fried delicacies take the better of us and we end up gorging on them more than we should.

Not to worry, we are just in time to remind you about your health by sharing tips for a healthy festive season

1. Never miss out on your workout. Even if you are too exhausted to exercise, try going out for a brisk walk. For all those fats and sweets which you crave for during diwali, have to be compensated by burning the residual fat from last night. Good health lasts forever, try not to abuse it with excess fat and fried snacks.

2. Our body takes longer time to burn alcohol as it’s a foreign substance for our body. So any food you eat during or after having booze will most likely to be stored as fat. Hence, make it a habit to eat something light and healthy before drinking. This will further prevent you from mindless nibbling while drinking.

3. During those family functions and get together parties, make sure to eat something at home before you step out. This will save you from eating too much as your stomach will be half full by then.

4. If you get hungry frequently and you like to nib on frequent intervals, stock you fridge with fresh vegetables and fruits. Sticking to a healthy platter at home will balance out the unhealthy festive treats outside.

5. Control your portion size. Trick your mind by taking large servings on a small cutlery. If napkins are available, use that as a plate as napkins can’t hold much.

6. Drink lots of water. Keep yourself hydrated all the time. This will help prevent water retention and keeps your blood pressure in check. 10-12 glasses of water daily will also make your skin glow.
