WhatsApp to Get Into the UPI Based Payment System In The Country

Rising above the conventional messaging app, Whats app is planning to get emerged into mobile payments in India. The very usual yet very popular whats app messenger will make a peer-to-peer payment method in the nation which will rely on Unified Payments Interface platform. After its launch, it will be the first of its kind providing this service.

A report in the Ken website states that WhatsApp will soon launch a per person payment system within coming six months.

In fact, company’s website says that they are looking for a technical person who is savvy in many technical and financial background of some domestic apps like BHIM and UPI apps that supports the money transfer system and merchant payments with the help of just mobile numbers.

The co-founder of the company, Brian Acton also made it clear that the company may choose to get involved in the digital payment segment.

Also, a Whatsapp spokesperson mentioned, “India is an important country for WhatsApp, and we’re understanding how we can contribute more to the vision of Digital India”. He mentioned this keeping in mind the newly announced govt. plans which focused on fostering internet-based services in the nation.

The spokesman also highlighted, “We’re exploring how we might work with companies that share this vision and continuing to listen closely to feedback from our users”.

India got a boost in digital transactions, after PM Narendra Modi’s imposition on the Rs. 500 and Rs. 1000 notes in previous year in the month of November.

Whats app has its 200 million customers in India out of its billions of users in the whole world.

Joining in the race, Samsung, the south Korean tech company has launched its mobile payment platform, which replicates Apple Pay. Just like they use the credit or debit cards for making payments, Samsung smartphone users can bring the payment option made available by the Samsung.

Interestingly, Truecaller also jumped into the payment platform regime which is UPI based.
