WhatsApp Will Withdraw Its Support From Some Outdated Smartphones By December, 2016

Many of the old handsets are in use, but the time has arrived to make a shift. That is because, the basic yet advanced messaging app WhatsApp will not be continuing working on those devices by this year ends. The company has made an announcement that the app will not be working on the outdated versions of many smart phones.

As per the reports of The mirror, in a recent technology update older phones are losing compatibility with the recent updating of Whats app. As per the statements of a company spokesperson, dated smartphones are a very crucial part of the company’s story but the upcoming advanced features of the app may not run very smooth with the old devices. That is why they are planning to withdraw the support.

He mentioned it like, ” As we look ahead to our next seven years, we want to focus our efforts on the mobile platforms the vast majority of people use”.

Majority of population use WhatsApp these days. In fact, for some people, the main purpose to use phone is to use WhatsApp only. If prime users of WhatsApp are using the app in old generation phone, they will have to move to the market for buying a new and WhatsApp compatible phone. This will result in profits for smartphone users because of a boost in their sales.

The application will not be compatible with devices like iPhone 3GS handset, iOS 6 running devices and fourth generation iPad. To continue with services, users will have to get updated to iOS 9.3.

Android phones and tablet version which are active on 2.1 or 2.2 will out of WhatsApp support. Windows 7 devices will also deprived of the support. Also, the app is extending its support for some devices like Blackberry OS, Nokia S40, Blackberry 10 and Nokia Symbian S60 till June 30th, 2017.

By the end of 2016, WhatsApp will withdraw support from below devices:

  • Nokia S40
  • BlackBerry OS and BlackBerry 10
  • Android 2.1 and Android 2.2
  • Nokia Symbian S60
  • Windows Phone 7
  • iPhone 3GS/iOS 6
