Why Adhaar Is A Big Civil Liberty Issue?

Adhaar database arouse enough concerns among the masses as the Government is bringing the use of Adhaar in the day to day lives of country people. People do not have any alternative left but to give away their biometric data to the country government. You name it, and your adhaar card will come in the way for instance getting a PAN card, driving license, income tax returns, a SIM card and many other uses.

Under Adhaar card, everything will be centralized with having biometric information of people. Till March 2017, the country has 113 crore population possessing Adhaar card. The Government has put a handsome target for hackers of the state level. On March 5th 2017, the UIDAI made sure that Aadhaar database is secured.

During previous month itself, cricketer MS Dhoni’s Adhaar details were leaked. On this, IT minister Ravi Shankar Prasad mentioned that the Aadhar data is safe and guarded. That collection agency had face a ban of 10 years. PP Chaudhary, the Minister of State for Electronics and IT mentioned, “I would like to inform that there is no question of leakage of Aadhaar data from the Aadhaar system. There is no leakage and it cannot be”.

The privacy conditions are running increasingly tensed. In this system, where the Government is making efforts to make a system which is quite capable of mass surveillance, can be used against the country people also.

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has sheerly advised public opposition to any ruling government which tries to set up a nucleus of country database with biometric information.

The foundation underlines the fact that facial recognition and  video surveillance on large base can cause large scale surveillance systems. The government which issues these type of cards can have more power than they deserve in a democracy and can even impose extra rules with chopping on many civil liberties. The Foundation has very clearly opposed the use of biometric data for prevailing e-governance, law imposition and private sector activities.
