Rajasthan: On occasion of International Women’s Day, state to launch first-in-India all women staff police station

Rajasthan has been thriving on empowering women and bolstering girl education. A myriad of schemes like Rajshri, Shubhlakshmi, Ashray and Bhamashah Yojana have been pioneered by the Chief Minister to upscale developments in female education and empowerment.

A testimony to this was furnished when Rajasthan became the first state to pioneer India’s first women staff police station. In this police station, not less than 22 police personnel have been deployed.

Not surprisingly, every position has been filled by women. From police constable to Station House Officer to Station head, a woman has been appointed to conduct their respective jobs.

The main idea to commission such police station is to provide a place for female victims where they can share their grievances without any difficulty.

This idea is driven from a very noble thought—to let female victims feel comfortable and at home while spelling out their concerns and issues at a police station, unlike at a normal station in which men are employed in majority.

When women came to express their grievances in nexus with body harassment, or molestation or rape cases, women felt really uncomfortable and hence refrained from speaking out the details.

The police station would be inaugrated on March 8, International Women’s Day.

Creches are also being constructed for the convenience of women with children. Not only this, women barracks will also be constructed.

“When a woman comes to file a complaint, there is a stigma in her mind whether a male police officer would understand her problem or he would in turn blame her. Here we are trying that each and every staff is a woman and therefore those women coming to file complaint will feel comfortable,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Kunwar Rastradeep. He added, “I believe this would be the first police station where each and every staff will be a woman.”
