Just after the news of Xiaomi Mi 5s launch date went public, rumours regarding Mi Note 2 Pro launch went viral. The device is expected to be unveiled on September 27 at the China National Convention Centre in Beijing alongside Mi 5s.
While it is confirmed that that the Mi 5s will be unveiled on that date, the latest leaks hints that the Mi Note 2 might be launched on the same date as well. While the details of the Mi Note 2 are still speculative, a screenshot of the ‘About phone’ page of the Note 2 Pro was posted on Weibo suggesting another variant of Note 2. According to the screenshot, Mi Note 2 Pro is said to run Android Nougat out of the box. In that case, Mi Note 2 Pro will be the first Xiaomi smartphone to come with Android Nougat. However, the website warns the screenshot might as well be a fake one.
As per the screenshot, the Xiaomi Mi Note 2 Pro will be running on Android 7.0 Nougat with MIUI 8 on top, powered by a 2.6GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 quad-core processor coupled with 8GB of RAM. The smartphone might come with 256GB of internal storage.
There have been numerous leaks regarding the Mi Note 2 as well. Leaks suggested that the Mi Note 2 will be launched in two variants. The high-end variant will sport a 5.7-inch 2K and 1080p display, Snapdragon 821 chipset, 6GB RAM and 128GB of inbuilt storage. The low-end version is rumoured to sport Snapdragon 820 chipset, 4GB RAM and 32GB of internal Storage. Both smartphones will come with 3D curved glass, Type-C port, fingerprint scanner and a dual 13MP rear camera. The devices will be backed by a 4000mAH battery along with the compatibility of 4G, NFC, USB Type C, infrared and Hi-Fi audio. Mi Note 2 will come with a metal unibody design. Xiaomi is reportedly dropping the external memory support for Mi Note 2. It is expected to be priced around 25,000 INR for the 64GB variant and around 28,000 INR for the 128GB variant.
Xiomi seems to follow the path of Samsung Galaxy Note 7 with Mi Note series as the leaked photo shows the dual curved front panel which earlier was only used by Samsung. It will be interesting to see if the trend continues post launch of the Note 2 Pro as Xiaomi never launched the Mi Note series in India.
