Dadri Lynching: Another rising communal tension

Another diabolic image of communalism has been portrayed in Dadri, UP where a 50 year old man Mohammad Akhlaq was killed.  It was rumored that he and his family was storing and consuming beef in their house. BJP leaders are jumping off on this incident saying, if the family was doing such thing, they are certainly at fault. It was also said by the BJP leaders that if this comes out to be in picture the person will be charged with culpable homicide instead of murder.

According to the Vice President of BJP from western UP, Srichand Sharma  it was said that “the man did not die because of the injuries but because of shock when someone (wrongly) told him his son was dead. This happens every day. When we hurt people’s sentiments, such clashes take place. This was not a communal riot. The Hindu community worships cows. Whose blood won’t boil if they see cow slaughter?”

As said by Police, they have sent samples of meat taken from Akhlaq’s home (which according to the daughter is mutton) to the forensic department for further examination. Akhlaq’s daughter, Sajida said it was mutton in the fridge and not beef.

“If cow slaughter and its consumption are proven, they (the victim and his family) are definitely at fault. There is a ban on slaughter of cows and this concerns the faith of Hindus. It is obvious that such an incident will lead to anger among people and there will be communal tension. If this was the case, the family is in the wrong. If they have consumed beef, they are also responsible. This is a village of Thakurs and they express their sentiments in a very strong way. If they have done this, they should have kept in mind what the reaction would be,” as said Nawab Singh Nagar by former BJP MLA from Dadri.

While BJP leaders are governing it as an accident and no communal color is given to it, but on the other hand the family is devastated with such a bizarre incident attacking them all of a sudden. “I feel this incident occurred due to some misunderstanding and the law should truthfully act against whoever is responsible for it,” the BJP minister said.

Akhlaq was beaten to death and his 22 year old son Danish was attacked by a mob who forcibly attacked in his hose considering the rumors to be true.

However, whether it has given the definition of an incident or accident but it has destroyed one family and on the other hand showed the agitated emotions of Hindu community.

Criticizing the state and the central government for ‘inaction’, All India Itthadul Majlis-e-Itthadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) president Asaduddin Owaisi claimed that the incident was a pre-planned murder. “The killing was not an accident but was pre-planned. You cannot barge into a house and assault people there,” he said. “This is the mind-set that is against the concept of secularism in India.”

The incident draws various rave reviews of political parties where one is attacking on other. A magisterial inquiry has also been ordered and UP CM Akhilesh Yadav has announced an ex-gratia of Rs 10 lakhs for the family of the victim.
