India is witnessing another success story, as novice developments are being worked out day-in and day-out. India is sure soaring in all facets of global standards and advancements. Quite recently, India launches the most potent weapon in the country’s defence system.
On Monday, India conducted it’s successful fourth test launch of nuclear-capable intercontinental ballistic missile. The missile, better known as Agni-V is the most potent as it can reach a target of up to 5,000 km. The missile was launched in the exterior peripherals of the east coast.
What will leave you in awe is the fact that its massive range will enable India to render targets in China within striking distance.
Prior to the launch in 2016, test launches of Agni-V have been consequentially conducted once in the following years 2012, second in 2013 and third in 2015.
It is a humungous weapon bearing phenomenally unique features. The solid-fuelled Agni-V is 17.5m (57ft) tall. It has three stages and a launch weight of 50 tonnes. Various parts of this missile were manufactured in the city of pearls, Hyderabad.
Agni, as the name rightly suggests ‘fire’ in Hindi and Sanskrit, this missile has entered into the list of India’s most sophisticated weapons.
The Agni-V missile is transported from Hyderabad to Wheeler Island in Odisha in colossal vehicles. What’s more? For the missile to be transported seamlessly, it is dismantled into more than a dozen parts. After reaching the final destination, these parts are re-assembled to form this magical missile, which is a great milestone in the history of India.
A handful of reputed agencies contributed to the design and construction of this gigantic missile. The APJ Abdul Kalam missile complex, Advanced Systems Laboratory (ASL) and Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) which come under DRDO contributed to the construction of missile. Moreover, a plethora of defence laboratories provided significant inputs towards the design.
Post the successful launch of the missile, President Pranab Mukherjee tweeted the following,” It will enhance our strategic and deterrence capabilities”.
Congratulations DRDO for successfully test firing Agni V. It will enhance our strategic and deterrence capabilities. #PresidentMukherjee
