Jasleen Kaur – A 20 year old had filed report against a 26-year-old guy Saravjit Singh on Monday 24th August 2015. In the report filed yesterday, Jasleen Kaur alleged the said youth for passing lewd comments and life threat. The incident gained velocity on national media in a short while. Thereafter, the guy was booked by Delhi police under IPC section 354A and 509.
The said victim of this incident made her a heroic figure within few hours. Impressed with the act Delhi CM Arvind Kejriwal announced to award Rs 5000 for her bravery. The act received mass support and people gave their opinion over incident.
The whole story changed after the statement given by accused Saravjit’s mother saying that “Girl is Aam Aadmi Party member and doing this for publicity”.
The accused in his statement revealed that he was standing at the Tilak Nagar traffic signal and had to take left, so he was standing on the left. The girl argued with him and later clicked his picture.
Now, after watching media coverage of the accused and other statements, opinion of masses changed in favor of the accused, as girl was informed to be a member of AAP, soon people raised questions and came up with her photographs with Arvind Kejriwal.
The legitimacy of this case is yet to be discovered, especially after all the drama that came out in past 48 hours of incident.
A similar incident held on December 2014, where Rohtak Gils alleged army cadet for eve-teasing in bus, while traveling. The case soon turned upside down after the statement of eye witness lady in favor of cadets.
These cases may or may not end up in revealing the actual story behind the incidents, but somehow manage to be on the national media with questions on social responsibility and unbiased coverage.
An important question that must be asked to the media giants – can they not telecast news after primary investigation? What do you think?
