There is an achievement for women again. A railway station with all woman staff has entered the Limca Book of Records. It is the Matunga suburban station on the Central Railway (CR). Matunga suburban station made to the Limca book of Record only after six months of becoming the first railway station in the country to be run by an all- woman staff.
At this station, women staffers were posted across all departments. Under the charge of Station Manager Mamta Kulkarni, there are ladies for commercial and operations, for ticket checking, for six Railway Protection Force and other responsibilities. In fact, Mamta Kulkarni is the first woman assistant station manager to be recruited on the CR’s Mumbai Division in 1992.
In July 2017, CR General Manager DK Sharma had taken this initiative of employ all woman staff with an aim of empowering women. This idea was implemented so the women can take all decisions of their own for their personal and professional well-being.
