Ravi Shastri is clear on one thing that the captain is the boss of the team as he takes over the position of Indian coach. Shastri beat 4 other candidates to the job and stated that he applied for the position having understood the gravity of the situation.
A day after Committee of administrators approved that the Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC) had exceeded its brief in picking the support staff for the Indian team, the Indian cricket board immediately sent out a statement confirming that it is the Team India camp that will have a say on the support staff that head coach Ravi Shastri should have on Thursday.
After taking the decision on his selection, the CAC consulted him and decided on having batting and bowling consultants on the overseas tour-to-tour basis, as per the requirement of the team.
Thus a new challenge awaits both Shastri and Kumble in the form of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan, who have been appointed as the consultants by the BCCI at the behest of the Cricket Advisory Committee. The Cricket Advisory Committee felt, with India traveling overseas in the next two years for challenging Test series and the 2019 World Cup in England, the players needed experienced specialist hands to ensure the team’s success.
Being asked about his thoughts on working with Dravid and Zaheer, Shastri stated in an optimistic manner that he even asked Sachin to come and have a chat with the boys. He also added that he believes that there is always a need for a fresh set of ideas. Whenever you get some fresh inputs through the quality of players like Zaheer and Dravid it can only turn out to be good.
Apart from this the rest of the team will also work on putting a new support staff in place. The new support staff will also include Bharat Arun as the bowling coach, Sanjay Bangar for batting and R Sridhar as the fielding coach.
We wish team India good luck for its future endeavors.
