In the recently concluded Miss Universe competition, Zuzibini Tunzi of South Africa has been declared the Miss Universe for year 2019. Puerto Rico’s Madison Anderson was declared the first runner up while Mexico’s Miss Universe was the second runner up.
Catriona Gray, Miss Universe 2018, crowned Zuzibini Tunzi with the coveted Prize at the event which was held in Atlanta on Sunday night.
Vartika Singh who represented India could not make it to the top 10.
26-year-old Zozibini Tunzi is from Tsolo, South Africa. She is quite active in fight against gender based violence. Her Miss Universe boi describes her as, “She has devoted her social media campaign to changing the narrative around gender stereotypes. She is a proud advocate for natural beauty and encourages women to love themselves the way they are.”
This year’s Miss Universe pageant was held in Atlanta which is the capital of the US state of Georgia. A total of 90 contestents from all over the world were brought together to compete under roof. There were three rounds to test the beauties from all over the world. The first round was that of swimsuit, second round consisted of evening gown where as the third round included on- stage questions.
She was questions on the present social issues and one final chance to explain why she was the right choice. She replied,
“I grew up in a world where a woman who looks like me — with my kind of skin and my kind of hair — was never considered to be beautiful,” she said in her last response. “I think it is time that that stops today. I want children to look at me and see my face and I want them to see their faces reflected in mine.”
