In an effort to get Indians to pay for the company’s premium service, streaming giant Spotify is limiting certain important services for free users.

The ability to play songs in a specified order, replay songs, or tap pack to their previous songs will no longer be available to free Spotify users in India; instead, these capabilities will only be available to Premium customers. According to the Swedish firm, free users will still be able to listen to their favorite musicians, playlists, and albums and receive song recommendations.

Since its 2019 launch, Spotify has offered these capabilities for free. However, the business has announced that it is altering the free tier in light of the market’s maturity.

Due to the new limitations placed on free-tier subscribers, Spotify will resemble the Brazilian version of the company’s service.

Spotify has a market share of about 26% and is the most popular music streaming service in India, according to a Redseer report released in April 2023.

Plans for Spotify Premium in India:

The cost of a premium Spotify subscription in India is 7 rupees per day, and it grants access to ad-free music on mobile devices as well as the capacity to download up to 30 songs at once. Additionally, Spotify’s 119/month subscription gives users access to up to 10,000 songs across 5 devices.
