5 Reasons Why India is not declaring War against Pakistan

india not declaring war against pakistan

After the audacious terrorist attacks on Uri in Kashmir on Sunday, the India-Pakistan relations are under deep strain. A total of 18 Indian Bravehearts has lost lives in the terrorist attack by JeM (Jaish-e-Mohammad), a Pakistan-based terror group. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in a stentorian voice, condemned the attack and promised every Indian that those behind the terror attack at the Army Base Camp in Uri in Kashmir “will not go unpunished”. PM’s statement has triggered considerable speculation that Indian Government is contemplating some serious retaliatory actions against terrorism.

Since the attacks, Indians through media and various social communications platform have clearly stated the harsh truth that they just don’t have any room for maneuver of Pakistan. The tolerance mark has been crossed and every media platform is busy in calculating the ways through which India can answer this cowardly act by our ‘not-so-friendly’ neighbor. As the authorities are deciding upon the magnitude of response to be delivered, it will definitely witness steady collapse in India-Pakistan relationship.
Modi has always been targeting previous Congress Government for being weak in Pakistan, experts say that Modi has no option left but to give a tough response to the Uri attack.

The retaliatory options could be many like Surgical strike, Hot Pursuit, Diplomacy, War of Attrition and Aggressive Posturing but any military action against Pakistan is a bad idea for India in the present scenario. It has all the chances of backfire along with being unlikely to achieve the desired result of preventing future terrorist attacks.

1. War Risk: As war will strike between two nuclear-armed neighbors, there is a possibility that Pakistan could escalate India’s small strike. Thus, war doesn’t seem to be an option.

2. More Terrorism attacks: Military attacks might actually increase the risk of terrorism in India. We all are well aware of how Pakistan infused a reign of terror on Kashmir and Punjab upon the creation of Bangladesh in 1971. So, it is hard to believe that Pakistan will ever give up its terror practices.

3. No guarantee of Success: Even if India starts military action against Pakistan, it doesn’t ensure that Pakistan will stop its terror camps against India. Such surgical attacks like the US did after 26/11 can be a political and military failure as India still is not very well educated about the digital data on terrorist camps in Pakistan.

4. This is what Pakistani Establishments want: The terrorists who attacked Uri and all their masters that the action would provoke India for a military action against them. It would bring everyone’s attention to the Kashmir issue and Pakistan could then play its sympathy card. The other relevant issue like Baluchistan, Sindh and Karachi would escape from everyone’s attention.

5. The economy will suffer: War is never good for the economy of any country plus PM doesn’t want to cultivate the image of an irresponsible state for India in the eyes of the world. A military action against Pakistan would also affect India and its international relationships. It would take India 10 years back in the line of development, as it is rightly said that success is the best revenge. India’s economic rise is the best answer to a Pakistan whose image is that of a terrorism-sponsoring state.
