Govt extends last date for linking Aadhar with mobile number to March 31

The process of linking Aadhar with your mobile number seems much of a task? Well, the telecoms have got it all sorted for you. Companies like Airtel, Vodafone and others had filed their plea for extending the linking deadline for 3-4 months. The Supreme Court has finally given its nod and extended the deadline to March 31. Also, the process of linking Aadhar with mobile has been made super easy.

All you need to do is call the telecom subscriber and receive an OTP. After keying that OTP, you will receive a confirmation within a few minutes. The entire process is expected to take up to 15-20 minutes.

What are the benefits of linking Aadhar with mobile

The linking of Aadhar and mobile number has a lot of advantages. Firstly, it will ensure continued telecom services on your phone. Secondly, you will be in a position to e-verify your ITR using Aadhaar. Thirdly, linking Aadhar with mobile will facilitate hassle-free updating of personal details on Aadhar. This saves a lot of time and effort as earlier, people had to visit Aadhar branch to make necessary changes.

Now the linking of Aadhar with a mobile number could be in two possible ways. Either it is the first time or subsequent updation of mobile number, in case you change your mobile number and want to update it on Aadhar.

Why has the govt taken this decision?

The service will be available after January 1, 2018. Every telecom will have a unique mobile number on which subscribers will have to call to receive their OTP. This service is seamless and hassle-free as far as subscribers are concerned. The entire idea is to save subscriber’s time and fast-track the process.

The government’s decision of linking Aadhar with your mobile number will render many details to the government. After demonetization, people are of the opinion that the linkage will enable full access to recharges and other activity happening through the phone. But experts suggest that there is an even bigger agenda towards linking the Aadhar with mobile number.
