Art on Wheels – The Modern Rajasthan

With the grand success of Resurgent Rajasthan Partnership Summit -2015, Rajasthan has marked the start of new era of modernization and infrastructural growth. The culture of Rajasthan that is nourished with traditions and its colorful being is now en-route a brand-new path of modernity and 360 degree growth.

In one such effort, a Cartist Auto exhibition was organized ahead of the partnership Summit. The exhibition comprised of 100 Rickshaws that were re-designed in Rajasthani art and colours. The Auto Art Festival was a unique initiative to promote local culture and art among visitors from various parts of the world and India as well.

Auto Rickshaws are three- wheeled carriages famous amongst the local inhabitants for its availability and mobility in congested parts of the town and low cost. It was introduced to India in the year 1880 as a Puller rickshaw and slowly transformed into a motor driven Auto Rickshaw. This journey has made Autos an indispensible part of the country.

Now while Rajasthan is stepping ahead in the course of development through Partnership Summit, Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje felt that it is equally important to take along traditional passenger carriage, making it an icon of Rajasthani culture and colorful life-style.

The Auto Art festival was organized with the efforts of Jaipur Nagar Nigam, through which these hand-printed rickshaws were showcased. These beautifully painted Auto rides were exhibited at Albert Hall campus on 18th November and stretched till 21st November, where a rally was organized on the first day, which was flagged off by the Chief Minister of Rajasthan Vasundhara Raje. In this event along with 100 Autos, 300 paintings related to automobiles and a number of vintage cars were also displayed.

Anisha, an Art Student said “The art of vintage is exceptional and bringing it out on canvas is very interesting because it’s unique. The sports cars we see today aren’t all distinctive but painting history is very intriguing.”

The best painted Rickshaw will be awarded a cash prize from Government of Rajasthan, as a part of contribution towards promoting the art. The event was not only rare but was also organized for the first time in India on such a large scale.

Other appealing marvels of this festival were Vintage cars like Morgan, Morris, Jaguar and Mercedes etc. Exhibition was then continued on various tourist spots which included Airport, Hawa Mahal, Jal Mahal and Amber Fort.

Cartist Auto Art Festival has also opened a new vertical of modern Rajasthan, where both heritage and modern outlook of state shared a common platform. In simple words, the event was the source of transformation of the old into new.
