Atal Bihari Vajpayee’s funeral today; Laid to peace with all honours

The death of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee leads to an end of era. He was a great personality who will be etched in hearts and minds forever for his contributions to Indian politics. He had led BJP to pathbreaking electoral victories and had become the first non-Congress PM to complete a full term. As a mark of respect to the former prime minister, the central government has announced a seven-day national mourning.

During this period of seven days, the national flag will be flown at half-mast throughout India. In fact, the school, colleges and government offices are closed for today.

Atal Bihari Vajpayee was 93 years old and suffering a lot from various ailments kidney tract infection, urinary tract infection, low urine output and chest congestion. He passed away at 5.05 pm in AIIMS. Admitted to hospital on 11th June, he was put on life-support system last evening. This veteran had been continuously monitored by AIIMS Director Dr Randeep Guleria and his team. As his situation was getting critical in last 24 hours, leaders were coming to pay him a visit.

On his death, the nation is mourning. He was a stalwart and possessed great power of pen. He had written down lot of remarkable poems. Today, his last rites will be held. He will be cremated today at 4pm at Rashtriya Smriti Sthal situated between Shanti Van and Vijay Ghat.

Current updates of his last rites
The leader’s dead body was kept at his official residence and then for his last rites, his dead body is brought to BJP office. All the BJP party leaders, PM Narendra Modi, BJP chief Amit Shah, party veteran LK Advani and Union Ministers are present for his funeral ceremony. To pay him tribute, leaders are coming at BJP office. At 1 PM, the funeral procession left the BJP headquarters and moving towards cremation place for the last rites. Delhi roads are crowded as to pay tribute to Atal ji.

His funeral held at 4:55pm. His last rites are attended by national as well as international leaders. He has been laid to peace with all honour.
