While Indian Cinema is quite far away from making hardcore superhero films, the teaser of Bhavesh Joshi Superhero recently dropped in signaling towards a possibility of Bollywood heading in that direction now. The movie features Harshvardhan Kapoor in the lead role and has been directed by Vikramaditya Motwane.

As opposed to the title that suggests a Gujarati Tadka, there’s nothing Gujarati about the teaser except the name. In fact, it seems to be “inspired” from MARVEL’s Deadpool to some extent because of the fact that Bhavesh Joshi superhero wears a black mask with red laser eyes and he takes a long rod out of his backpack to fight the bad guys.
However, unlike any other superhero flick where we see the hero flying in the air, saving people in trouble, and doing all kinds of impossible things; this one looks like a normal guy who is on a mission to take revenge from a bunch of bad guys. Even though he fights with dexterity, he is also beaten harshly and is thrown out of a building. In other words, it’s a much more realistic story of a vigilante and nothing superficial in terms of visuals or action sequence.
Another key takeaway from the teaser is the fact that Bhavesh Joshi talks about the victory of good over evil which is pretty much every hero out there. There’s no doubt that Vikramaditya is an ace director and after films like Trapped, we have no reason to doubt him but at the same time, the narration of the teaser itself gives you a feeling that it could have been more promising.
Nonetheless at a time when the Indian audience has almost nothing to praise in Bollywood’s list of superhero movies and Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish is being dragged to a pointless number of sequels, there’s a hope that we still have something to wait for.
