Cold Wave Conditions Over Northwest India Likely To Become Less Intense From 19 January: IMD

According to the India Meteorological Department, the cold wave conditions over northwest India are expected to end on January 19. This comes as two western disturbances are expected to hit northwest India in quick succession on January 18 and January 20, according to the IMD.

According to IMD, a new Western Disturbance is expected to hit the Western Himalayan Region on the night of January 18, 2023. Light/moderate/isolated/scattered rainfall is now very likely over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand from the 18th to the 20th of January 2023.

Another active Western Disturbance is expected to affect the Western Himalayan Region on the night of January 20 and the adjoining plains of northwest India on the night of January 22.

Light-moderate scattered/fairly widespread under its influence During the 20-24 January period, moderate rainfall or snowfall is expected in Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, and Uttarakhand.

On the 22nd and 24th of January, light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall is expected over the plains of northwest India.

Minimum temperatures are expected to fall by about 2 degrees Celsius in many parts of Northwest India until January 17 morning, with no significant change until January 18 and a rise of 4-6 degrees Celsius from January 19-21, 2023.

Minimum temperatures are expected to fall by 2-4 degrees Celsius in many parts of East India until the 18th of January, with no significant change after that.

There has been no significant change. Temperatures in Gujarat state are expected to rise by 2-4 degrees Celsius by the 18th of January.

There will be no significant change in minimum temperatures over the rest of northern India over the next 4-5 days.

Cold wave to severe cold wave conditions are very likely over some parts of Rajasthan, Punjab and Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi until 18 January, and then in isolated pockets of East Rajasthan on 19 January; cold wave conditions are also very likely in isolated pockets over Uttar Pradesh and Bihar from 17 to 19 January; and over Madhya Pradesh, Himachal Pradesh, Saurashtra, and Kutch on January 17-18, 2023.

Ground Frost is very likely in isolated locations over Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and West Uttar Pradesh on January 17-18, 2023.
