Deepika Padukone to play actor and producer for Meghna Gulzar’s next; will essay life of acid attack survivor Laxmi

The sultry and sassy Deepika Padukone has announced her next big project – she will be essaying the role of an acid attack survivor Laxmi Agarwal. The project is directed by Meghna Gulzar but will be bankrolled by Deepika Padukone herself.

She was given a jolt on listening to the story so much that on hearing the story, she decided to produce the movie. The movie is expected to hit the theatres next year and is bound to be a magnum opus – given its director, producer and actor are nailing their jobs.

This is what Deepika told to Mumbai Mirror, a media house: “When I heard this story, I was deeply moved as it’s not just one of violence but of strength and courage, hope and victory. It made such an impact on me, that personally and creatively, I needed to go beyond and so the decision to turn producer.”

Laxmi, whose story is being projected by Deepika has lots of feather on her cap. She was the US State Department’s International Women of Courage Awardee in 2014. Additionally, she also hosted a lot of episodes and TV shows. Not only this, but she also hosted the London Fashion Week in 2016. She was attacked by a man who she had rejected in 2005.

Before joining Meghna’s project, Deepika was set to work with director and Irrfan Khan on a new project. However, the project has been indefinitely postponed due to Irrfan’s ill health.

Vishal Bharadwaj had almost finalized the release date for his film starring Deepika and Irrfan Khan but no progress as of yet. Here’s what he said:
“I am pushing back the film by a few months as both of my lead actors are down with different health problems. Irrfan is down with jaundice and it will take him a few weeks to recover and Deepika Padukone’s back problem which had previously developed during the shooting of Padmaavat has now resurfaced.”
