Monsoon heavy rainfall has caused severe flooding and flood like situations in various parts of India which has lead to the displacement of thousands of people from their houses. Many people have also lost their lives in this heavy unfortunate rainfall and many other have no access to food and water. Electricity and network remains cut-off from long in various parts of the country. Especially in the internal villages, road and telephone connectivity has taken a severe hit because of water log-in. In cities, rains caused severe plight to people with traffic jams which had paralyzed the daily lives. The invasive flooding in several states such as Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Karnataka, and the capital Delhi has left thousands of people homeless over the past one month. Situations are getting bad to worse in some of the state. Armed forces and government have been trying all hard to help people but all is going into vain and people are helpless against the nature’s cruel side.
Next in the league of getting alerts and facing flood like situations is the capital of Jammu and Kashmir –Jammu. Authorities have announced a flood alert in the city on Sunday after incessant heavy rainfall which has continued from last 24 hours. The heavy rainfall has adversely affected the Jammu city and has caused many rivers and other water bodies to cross their danger mark and to swell.
A district administration official said, “A flood alert has been sounded and all departments concerned with flood protection duties were asked to keep their field staff ready.”
“The Tawi river was flowing at 18 feet on Sunday morning, which is the danger mark,” an official said. “Chenab River was flowing above the danger level at 30 feet,” he added.
Also, due to rainfall intensive landslide in the Ramban district of the state has blocked the main Jammu-Srinagar national highway which has paralysed the normal travel throughout the state. The official further informed, “Traffic on the highway has been suspended on Sunday.”
