Former IB chief Dineshwar Sharma appointed as interlocutor in Kashmir by PM Modi

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh announced Dineshwar Sharma as India’s interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir. This decision is taken by PM Modi government. Mr. Dineshwar Sharma is a former Intelligence Bureau chief who has been chosen by Narendra Modi. Rajnath Singh said that he has been accorded a cabinet secretary rank.
This decision of appointing an interlocutor for Jammu and Kashmir is welcomed by chief minister of Jammu and Kashmir Mehbooba Mufti. She appreciated this appointment of ex-intelligence chief Dineshwar Sharma as interlocutor. “Dialogue is a necessity of the hour and the only way to go forward,” she said.

Work of Interlocutor
Home minister said, “As a representative of the government of India, Dineshwar Sharma will initiate a sustained interaction and dialogue to understand legitimate aspirations of people in Jammu and Kashmir.”

Reason behind this appointment
Mr. Rajnath Singh also cleared the reason behind this appointment. He said it was suggested that the government should hold dialogue with all political and relevant parties. This step by government may be proved as a solution to the several issues prevailed in Jammu and Kashmir. It is also said that the Dineshwar Sharma has been chosen after several consideration. He further added this decision is implementation of Narendra Modi’s speech on Independence Day.

This step will help in strengthening India’s security. Kashmir Police and Indian army have identified many active terrorist groups in the valley in last few months. In fact, government is also making efforts to arrange funds for separatists.

Who is Dineshwar Sharma?
Dineshwar Sharma is a 1979-batch (retired) Indian Police Service officer of Kerala cadre. He hails from Bihar and has a wide range of experience. He has vast knowledge of handling issues like separatism and insurgencies to domestic and regional politics. He served as the IB director between December 2014 and 2016. He has attended training on Intelligence work and Policing methods.

He completed his primary education from Pali village in Bihar and graduation from Gaya in Bihar. He first qualified for Indian Forest Service and later for IPS. Sharma had also worked with the National Security Advisor Ajit Doval.

The people who earlier appointed as India’s interlocutors to Kashmir were journalist Dileep Padgaonkar, NN Vora, academician Radha Kumar and former Information Commissioner MM Ansari.
