A joint team of Udaipur police on Tuesday arrested 85 people for gambling at a hotel at Bicchiwara in Dungarpur district near Gujarat border. This is claimed to be the state’s biggest gambling racket. The Udaipur police have also seized Rs 45 lakh cash at Hotel Signature in Rajasthan’s Udaipur city on Monday.

The police party raided the hotel on the information of the sources received by the inspector general of police Anand Srivastav and caught all the accused while they were busy in illegal gaming. According to the superintendent of police, Brijesh Soni the entries in the register that was recovered at the hotel indicated that the gamblers had put more than Rs 10 crore at stake.

All the accused have been rushed to the police station and police are now questioning them about their crime and other people being involved in the gambling. Most of the accused are Gujarati Businessmen. However, the police also suspect that this state’s biggest gambling racket was being run in collusion with the local police and other administration officials.  The arrested people are booked under the various sections of the Indian Penal Code including the section 13 of the Public Gambling Act.

The Udaipur range police are running an “EYE AND EARS” scheme to check the crimes. The main idea behind this scheme is to involve the public in gathering information.  The police have encouraged the people to help them by giving them information about the criminal activities taking place in their surroundings.  The team under this scheme is striving to stop illegal gambling in the city and is relentlessly trying to identify the people involved in it.  This way the people also stay in touch with the police. It is a part of the measures taken to keep the society safe and secure.
