A Kolkata police officer is gaining popularity online for assisting a distressed young student and getting her to the examination centre on time. On February 25, the Kolkata police department’s official Facebook page shared the story of Inspector Souvik Chakraborty.
According to the post, Chakraborty, OC, Howrah Bridge Traffic Guard, was patrolling the Strand Road near Raja Katra when he noticed a girl in school uniform crying and pleading for assistance. According to the post, the girl was scheduled to take her Madhyamik or Class 10 board exam at Adarsh Shiksha Niketan in Shyambazar.
According to the post, the girl, a resident of N S Road, was alone because her grandfather had recently died and her family had gone to attend the funeral. “Alone and already late for the exam, she was running from pillar to post in search of assistance,” the report continued.
Chakraborty picked up the girl in his official vehicle, informed the Traffic Control Room to ensure a green corridor, and as they rushed towards the exam centre, he told her not to worry. They arrived at the centre just as it was about to open at 11.30 a.m. According to the post, the officer wished the relieved and grateful student luck on her exam.
