Recently, the government unveiled a new Khadi uniform for the Indian Post office staff including postmen, postwomen, mail guard and multi-tasking personnel. The newly designed uniforms were launched jointly by Union Ministers of State (Independent Charge) for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Giriraj Singh and Ministers of State (Independent Charge) Communications Manoj Sinha.

The minister said that the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) presented the design to the government and the postal department accepted it. The process was completed in 25 days and the new Khadi uniforms were designed in khaki color.

A total of 8 Lakh meters of fabric has been used to design the uniform for 90,000 postwomen and postmen that would be supplied by 37 top Khadi institutions across the country. These will include states like Himachal Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh, Punjab, Karnataka, and other states.

The newly designed uniforms are same in color but carry certain changes. The “Gandhi Topi” has been replaced with p-cap and there is a logo of ‘India Post’ on the pocket and the cap. Besides, there are red stripes on shoulders and shoulder blade.

The uniform will be made available through 7000 retail outlets of KVIC for both males and females at INR 1500 and INR 1700 respectively. This will help in ending the variations in the uniform as all postmen currently purchase their uniforms from different places. The department will also be giving an allowance of INR 5,000 per month as it’s compulsory for the staff to wear uniforms.
