The Senior Executive Editor of NDTV India, Mr Ravish Kumar receives the prestigious 2019 Ramon Magsaysay Award for “harnessing journalism to give voice to the voiceless”. The shows he hosted are said to display the realities of ordinary people which he advocated and showed unbiasedly with the right analytics.

He has been cited as a well-informed, just and people’s journalist. The award will be presented in Manila, the capital of the Philippines, on September 9, 2019. The news does not bring him many congratulations, wishes and praises, but it also added another achievement of pride in India’s shelf.

Ravish Kumar has been previously recognised as the best journalist giving voice to the voiceless people many times before. The Ramon Magsaysay Award is also known as Asia’s highest honour. The other four people receiving this award this year includes Myanmar’s Ko Swe Win who is also a journalist, Thailand’s Angkhana Neelapajit who is a human rights activist, Philippines’ Raymundo Pujante Cayabyab who is a musician and South Korea’s Kim Jong-Ki who is an activist working with violence and mental health issues in youth.

The award is named after Phillippine’s third president as it celebrates the memory and leadership example of the great Filippino leader. The Ramon Magsaysay Award is presented to the individuals or organisations in Asia who manifest the selfless service and transformative influence.

Ravish Kumar host the show “Prime Time” on NDTV India. The show has been recognized as the one dealing with the problems of the ordinary people in the best way. He easily connects and communicates with the poor. His stories are based on extensive research and fact-based opinions. He stands for truth selflessly and that is what has earned him this great honour.
