Kerala Floods: Who donated how much?

As per the initial estimate, Kerala has suffered an estimated loss of about 19,512 crores, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan revealed. He said the process can be long and also asked all to contribute to the Chief Minister’s Distress Relief Fund.

The lands of Kerala have been struck with life-taking floods and rains. The death toll has reached 200, while hundreds of thousands have been affected, bruised, etc.

In light of the destruction caused by floods, PM Modi announced a grant of Rs 500 crore, Rs 100 crore from Home Minister Rajnath Singh. Vijayan, himself donated Rs 1 lakh to the CMRDF. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has also announced an aid of Rs 10 crore. Another Rs 10 crore aid was announced by Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for Kerala. Not only this, one-month salaries of all Congress and AAP MLAs and MPs will be given to the state, the corresponding parties announced.

Tamil Actor Dhanush contributed Rs 15 lakh, while Vishal and Sivakarthikeyan gave Rs 10 lakh each. Telugu actor Vijay donated Rs 5 lakh, another South actress Anupama Parameswaran donated Rs 1 lakh. Bollywood superstars Amitabh Bachchan, Shah Rukh Khan, Anushka Sharma, Abhishek Bachchan have made significant contributions towards the welfare and rehab of those affected. Many other politicians, state parties have contributed to the fund.

There has been wide circulation and donation seeking advertisements on National Television. Celebrities are reaching out to the audiences and asking them to make as much contribution as possible.

All digital shopping portals like Myntra, Amazon, PayTM, etc. have integrated a separate section on their app for donating amounts to Kerala. Amazon has tied up with NGO’s like Goonj, etc. and delivering pantry stuff directly at the doorstep of victim’s homes.

Civilians are also contributing in huge amounts and are also consistently spreading the word about the same. Some are taking screenshots of their donations and uploading them as their Instagram and Whatsapp stories to encourage others to join the bandwagon.
