Manohar Parrikar: Akash missile is here to stay

Manohar Parrikar: Akash missile is here to stay

You know that it is a big deal for the defence sector when any other foreign ammunition is not chosen over an Indian one. This is what happened in the case of Akash missile as it beat the Israeli missiles and got selected in the army for the immense potentiality it has to offer in the long run.

An announcement was made yesterday in the parliament regarding this achievement of the Indian Army.

Initially the army discussed that Akash missile was slower than Israeli ones and even decided to purchase the latter and not the Akash. The decision was also backed by Indian Navy, for they suggested that Akash is not yet suitable enough for ship borne activities.

But keeping up Indian hopes with Akash, Manohar Parrikar, the Defence Minister said, “As the Akash system evolves through the process of continuous development, its current short-comings are bound to be addressed and the missile has the potential to become India’s mainstay in the category of Short Range Surface to Air Missiles. The production of the missile needs to be ramped up to meet the demands of the air force and army. It is relevant to mention here that as soon as the Akash missile was successfully tested, the air force had dropped its plan to co-develop the missile through import of technology from France.”

All in all we know that Indian army and the Defence Minister didn’t lose their hopes in Akash and this confidence only made the rest realise that Akash missile is here to stay.
