new panama papers india

An almost 2.6 terabyte of panama papers data was released on Monday by International Consortium of Investigative Journalists (ICIJ). The papers deal with 11.5 million worth legal and financial records, out of which 37,000 files are pertaining to India and its citizens.

The exact detail regarding Indians is that 22 offshore entities, 1,046 individuals, 42 intermediaries and 828 addresses are found to be a part of the papers.

ICIJ has gone forward to put a disclaimer on its site as well. It goes, “There are legitimate uses for offshore companies and trusts. We do not intend to suggest or imply that any persons, companies or other entities included in the ICIJ Offshore Leaks Database have broken the law or otherwise acted improperly. Many people and entities have the same or similar names. We suggest you confirm the identities of any individuals or entities located in the database based on addresses or other identifiable information.”

The only relief this list provides to the listed individuals is that their personal details like account numbers have not been disclosed.
