After a high drama of about 24 hours, former finance minister P. Chidambaram was arrested by CBI from his Delhi residence on Wednesday. P. Chidambaram made sure he does not end up in CBI’s arrest without creating a scene as he appeared at the Congress headquarters late-night assisted by his lawyers & senior colleagues Abhishek Manu Singhvi & Kapil Sibal.

While addressing the reporters at the Congress headquarters, he denied of any accusation of offenses in the INX Media case which was contrary to the evidence found by central probe agencies and side on observation of high court on Tuesday.

Chidambaram also denied the reports of hiding from the law when he was working with his lawyers to find a solution to these ongoing charges. But the most interesting thing was that he did not reveal where he was in Delhi when both the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and ED (Enforcement Directorate) were on a manhunt to track him down on Tuesday night.

After he addressed the media at the Congress Headquarters, Chidambaram assisted by a ruckus outside 24 Akbar Road, gave another slip to the CBI officers and landed at his Jor Bagh residence followed by a team from the CBI and ED. Around 9.45 pm, the Congressman was taken to the CBI headquarters.

After P. Chidambaram’s arrest, his son and Lok Sabha MP Karti Chidambaram, who was also involved in the INX Media case, said that the arrest was done because of the politically motivated reasons and he would seek the help of Court to bring justice to his father.

Indrani Mukherjee who was one of the owner of INX media turned approver against Chidambaram and admitted that she bribed P. Chidambaram and his son for keeping her company out of choppy waters.

P Chidambaram is most likely to be produced in the special CBI court by 4 pm today. The CBI has a window of 24 hours to produce him before a magistrate or a court. The deadline gets over at 9 pm today.
