The Center is working towards implementing unprecedented cum transformational decisions in the country, be it eliminating the VIP culture from Indian policians or innovative methods to conserve fuel.
BJP Supremo, Narendra Modi recently contributed towards another pioneering initiative towards conserving oil and petrol. After his thoughtful and meaningful ‘Man Ki Baat’, came a decision which will ban fuel outlets in eight states will be shut every Sunday, beginning May 14.
Suresh Kumar, an executive committee member of the consortium of Indian petroleum dealers said, “We had planned to shut our outlets on Sundays a few years back. But oil marketing companies had then requested us to reconsider our decision. Now we have decided to shut the outlets on Sundays.”
The Indian petroleum dealers association’s decision has drawn inspiration from Narendra Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’ programme which is aired monthly. In PM’s last ‘Mann ki baat’ programme, PM had urged all citizens to save and conserve oil to save the environment.
Kumar, vice-president of Tamil Nadu Petroleum Dealers Association, informed that close to 20,000 outlets in Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Karnataka, Puducherry, Andhra Pradesh, Telangana, Maharashtra and Haryana would be shut for 24 hours on Sundays, starting May 14.
“In Tamil Nadu, we expect a business loss of Rs 150 crore if we do not operate on a Sunday. But we have been seeing a decline in sales on Sundays by upto 40 per cent,” he said. Asked if the association’s decision was supported by the OMCs, he said, “We will communicate our decision to them shortly.”
Kumar also relieved many by informing that during emergencies, one staff member would be present at a petrol pump which usually hosts a team of 15 staff persons. What remains to be seen is how citizens will react to this change. People will effectively tackle the situation as many would get their car’s tank filled uptil the brim.
