After watching the havoc cyclone Amphan has caused in West Bengal and Odisha, Prime Minister Modi has decided to give the south eastern cities a visit. He first will land in West Bengal and then later in the day he will visit the Naveen Patnaik’ governed state of Odisha.

Mr. Modi will conduct aerial surveys and take part in review meetings in the two States, where aspects of relief and rehabilitation will be discussed.

Chief ministers Mamata Banerjee and Naveen Patnaik would join him during the aerial survey in their respective States.

Cyclone Amphan has claimed as many as 77 lives and has left thousands homeless in West Bengal. Apart from this, it has battered several parts of the state and washed away bridges and swamped low-lying areas.

Odisha has also bore the brunt of Amphan as Amphan damaged power and telecom infrastructure in several coastal districts.

The extremely severe cyclonic storm has weakened and moved to Bangladesh, the Indian Meteorological Department said.

This is the Mr. Modi’s first visit outside the national capital after the coronavirus-induced lockdown was imposed on the midnight of March 24.
