Reliefs extends to railways as demonetisation issue continues to reign: Service tax on tickets waived off

In the midst of the Demonetisation aftermath ,nobody has been spared. It covers all in its ambit-ranging from the Ultra-rich brackets to the poorest strata of the society. However, the move doesn’t apparently take a harsh toll on the Indian public. Scores of reliefs have been announced by the government in various spheres of everyday life. This is to ensure that people do not stifle due to the sudden move. Payment of Rs.500,Rs.1000 notes is allowed at petrol pumps , hospitals and railway stations.

The Indian Railways on Tuesday announced that it would waive off service charges for E-tickets and I-tickets booked through Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation Ltd (IRCTC) .This decision has been objectively taken to promote cashless transactions from November 23 to December 31. I-ticket refers to the ‘Internet Ticket .It is like a normal ticket. When you book an I-ticket, it is the Indian railway responsibility to deliver the I-ticket at your door step.

Train tickets booked through the IRCTC website will become cheaper from Wednesday. The government has waived service tax to incentivise cashless transactions to counter the demonetization move. Railway Spokesperson Anil Kumar Saxena said, “Now the passengers won’t have to pay the service charges on booking E-tickets and I-tickets through IRCTC from November 23 to December 31.”  This waiver can be availed till the end of the year . However,  There exists a possibility of extension of dates .

Currently, the railways charge Rs 20 as service tax for booking Sleeper class and Rs 40 as service tax for booking AC class tickets through IRCTC. The government also announced that the higher notes will be accepted till November 24 midnight for booking tickets at the railway stations and buying food items in trains and on railway station premises.

All in all, there is an air of relief hovering in the market . Despite of the massive cash crunch observed in  the country. These thoughtful cum significant exemptions continue to engender a bacon of hope for each and every Indian .
