Indian Railways has recently revealed that it is having more than 2,00,000 vacant posts across many groups. Majority of these posts belong to the Northern Zone of the Network. The revelation was made in a written form which was presented by Railway Minister Piyush Goyal in the Lok Sabha. It stated that 2,22,159 posts are lying vacant in the railway department.

The Delhi-headquartered Northern Railway with 27,537 vacant posts is on the top of the list of rail zones. The next in number is the Eastern Railway headquartered in Kolkata with 19,942 posts and finally, there is the Central Railway headquartered in Mumbai with 19,651 vacancies.

The minister also informed that 41,128 railway vacancies for SC/STs are vacant across the country. Among these, the highest number of posts i.e. 8,995 is vacant in Northern Railways.

Talking about the South Eastern Railway Zone, the department has published a notification to recruit 1785 apprentice vacancies. The last date to apply online is January 2, 2018. Mentioned below is the additional information about the recruitment:

  • The applicants must be between 15 and 24 years of age as on Jan 1, 2018. However, there is a relaxation of up to 5 years, 3 years, and 10 years for SC/ST, OBC, and physically handicapped applicants, respectively.
  • The applicant must have secured at least 50% marks in aggregate in 10th Class from a recognized board. They should also possess an ITI Pass Certificate by NCVT and should also satisfy minimum fitness requirements.
  • The application fee is INR 100 for the online examination. However, the SC/ST/PWD/Women candidates are exempted from the fees.
