Today is the birth anniversary of a legend of Bollywood. This man had contributed a lot to filmi jagat with his memorable movies. He was also known as “the greatest showman of Hindi cinema”. He was the famous actor, producer and filmmaker Raj Kapoor. Born on 14 December 1924, his full name was Ranbir Raj Kapoor. He was son of actor late Prithviraj Kapoor. His family, Kapoor family is one of the families that have most influential actors and filmmakers in the history of Hindi cinema.

His family life
Talking about his family, he was six siblings including Shashi Kapoor and Shammi Kapoor. He was married to Krishna Kapoor and had five children- actors Randhir, Rishi and Rajiv, and two daughters, Ritu Nanda and Rima Jain. On 2 June 1988, he was died due to asthma.

Awards
Raj Kapoor had been awarded with 3 National Film Awards as well as 11 Filmfare Awards in India. He was called “the Clark Gable of the Indian film industry”. For his contributions, the Government of India honoured him with the Padma Bhushan in 1971. He had been conferred with the Dadasaheb Phalke in 1987 Award, India’s highest award in cinema.

Know some unknown facts of his life
He set up RK Films in 1948. He used a scene of his movie as a logo. It was a scene where Raj Kapoor and Nargis are holding a violin.
His leading ladies have worn a white saree. You will find the heroines of his film wearing white saree at least once in his films.
He was passed away on the day he was honoured with Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
