Tree Plantation Kicks Off with This Year’s Motto My Green Rajasthan. Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje & Union Minister Dr. Harshvardhan Plant Trees to Spread Awareness on Van Mahotsav this Week…

Trees, unlike humans, teach us valuable lessons on life.

  • Roots teach us to stay grounded.
  • Stem teaches us to connect with our roots.
  • Barks tell us to bend before we break.
  • Looking at the trees reminds us of turning over new leaves in every season.
  • The lush green canopy denotes how a tree enjoys its natural beauty.
  • On the whole, the plant asks us to keep growing.

The entire human population owes its existence to forests. Whether its shelter, food or clothing, trees have catered to all our needs. Now is the time to return this favor. Forest conservation is essential to maintain the delicate balance between plants, animals, and humans. Keeping this in mind, former agriculture & food minister Kulapati Dr. K.M. Munshi introduced Van Mahotsav to celebrate the true spirit of forests. The ‘mass tree plantation drive’ attempts to generate public enthusiasm and interest in conservation of forests and the environment.

Keeping this tradition alive, the desert state of India celebrates Van Mahotsav this week. Rajasthan, a pioneer of water revolution in India via CM’s ambitious ‘Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan’ will lead the ‘tree revolution’ in the country. Both the government and people joined hands to plant around 15 lakh trees all over the state today.

In last two years, the authorities planted lakh trees under Mukhyamantri Jal Swavlamban Abhiyan. As a result of this endeavor, barren villages like Sirohikalan and Sawariyankal featured lush greenery. This year, they’ve upped the standards to 60 lakh.

The mass tree plantation kicked off with CM Vasundhara Raje, Union Minister Dr. Harshvardhan and other key ministers of state planting Bael trees (known as ‘Bilav Patra’ in Hindi language) in Govindpura Beed village. Chanting of Vedic mantras accompanies planting of ‘holy trees’ from Indian mythology. The group of ministers planted Maulsiri, Cluster Fig, Banyan, Peepal, and Shami (Prosopis cineraria or Khejdi in local language). These trees purify the surroundings by emitting oxygen and positive vibrations, as mentioned in Hindu mythologies.

Moved by the commitment of the government towards building up a ‘Clean and Green Rajasthan’, Dr. Harshvardhan appreciated the idea of using novel technologies, such as geo-tagging for monitoring the green cover.

On the occasion of 68th Van Mahotsav, CM Vasundhara Raje initiated the ‘My Green Rajasthan’ mission. The chief minister encouraged people to plant trees in their surroundings, click a selfie with the sapling, and share it on social networks to spread the message. After ‘selfie with daughters’ and ‘selfie on Makarsankranti’, it’s ‘selfie with trees’ this time.

So go ahead, plant your trees and click a selfie. Post it on social networks with the hashtag #MyGreenRajasthan. Help the government in building eco-friendly Rajasthan. Do your bit!
