Rajasthan Gurjar Agitation

Reservation Quota
The gurjars are protesting for reservation for last decade. They have been already given one per cent reservation in the ‘most backward’ category but they are demanding for a five per cent quota under the Other Backward Classes (OBC) slab.

In October 2017, the Rajasthan Assembly passed a bill to raise OBC reservation from 21 to 26 per cent to create a new category within it for Gujjars and some other castes. But, Rajasthan high court put a stay on the bill as it would have increased the reservation to 54 per cent. Further Supreme Court also directed not to exceed the 50 percent reservation cap.
