Reliance Jio: The Game Changer of 2016
Reliance Jio: The Game Changer of 2016

Ever since CEO Mukesh Ambani launched Reliance Jio’s free data plan, nearly half the country bought the Jio SIMS to avail the benefits of free data services. This was followed by Reliance competitors Airtel and Vodafone launching their data tariffs to beat the Ambanis at their game. The freebies continued through the New Year until March the end of 2017. Well, we don’t know if it benefitted Reliance, but it certainly had a dramatic impact on the sale of other companies, especially the smartphones.

Here are 4 smartphone companies that owe their sales to Reliance Jio’s free data services.

Facebook’s Records the Highest Number of Online Users Since the Inception of Reliance Jio

Other than the Indian smartphone manufacturing companies, even global social media giant Facebook owes its rising sales to Reliance Jio. Since the introduction of Jio in India, Facebook achieved the highest number of daily as well as monthly global active users.

In his annual sales report, CFO David Wehner hinted that Facebook had the strongest market in India. This was probably because of free data offer. Other than this, Facebook had launched its android app, Facebook Lite, last year. This newly revamped app could be another reason why Facebook sales went up this year.

In 2016, Facebook registered 195 million Indian accounts, whereas the US had 191 million users only. It seems free data services turned out to be beneficial for not just users but other companies too.
