Sarbananda Sonowal will take oath

The new government led by the new Chief Minister of the state Sarbananda Sonowal will take oath in Guwahati today. Prime Minister Narendra Modi and BJP Chief Amit Shah are expected to attend the oath taking ceremony with other senior party members. Sarbananda Sonowal is the first Chief Minister from BJP in Assam.

Sarbananda Sonowal with take oath along with 10 new members of the cabinet which includes ministers from alliance partners Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) and Bodolans People’s Front (BPF).

A source said, “People who have worked their way up in the party would have to be accommodated; there are also people the RSS wants in the cabinet.”

The oath swearing ceremony will be held at Khanpara where more than one lakh people are expected to come to witness the event.

BJP and its alliance partners had won 86 seats in the 126-member Assembly. The elections were held in two phases. First was held on April 4 and second on 11 April. The final results were later declared on May 19.

A government release on Monday said, “the Governor dissolved the House on May 20 from the afternoon of May 21 under powers conferred by Clause (2)(b) of Article 174 on advice of the Chief Minister.”
