Situation at LAC Escalates – India, China on High Alert

While matters have been tense for over 3 months at the Indo-China border, the standoff now seems to have escalated further. After Indian troops allegedly crossed the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in eastern Ladakh and fired warning shots at Chinese border personnel, China has made “stern representations” to the Indian government.

Indian troops blatantly fired warning shots at our border patrolling troops who were there for consultation. Our troops were compelled to take measures to stabilise situation.

“Through diplomatic and military channels we have made stern representations asking the Indian side to stop it’s dangerous actions, immediately withdraw the people who crossed the line and discipline the frontline troops and those who fired the warning shots and make sure similar incidents won’t happen again,

” Chinese foreign ministry spokesperson, Zhao Lijian said at the regular ministry briefing on Tuesday. (ANI)

However the Indian army has dismissed the allegations made by People’s Liberation Army’s (PLA) western theatre command (WAC), as fictitious.

The Indian Army issued a statement on Tuesday stating that its troops exercised “great restraint and behaved in a mature and responsible manner” despite provocation by the Chinese side who fired shots.

“It is the People’s Liberation Army that has been blatantly violating agreements and carrying out aggressive manoeuvres, while engagement at military, diplomatic and political levels is in progress,”

the Indian army statement read.

The Indian Army’s official statement added, “At no stage, has the Indian Army transgressed across the LAC or resorted to use of any aggressive means, including firing.”

The story is still developing.
