January 31, 2018 is special as there is total lunar eclipse with supermoon and a blue moon. The happening of all three events is called a super blue blood moon. This is a rare lunar event to watch. The people residing in the US, Alaska and Hawaii will enjoy the best view of this event. Indians will also witness the super blue blood moon. In India, it is first visible in north-East between 4:21 PM and 5:18 PM IST while in rest of India between 5:18 PM IST and 6:21 PM IST. In Rajasthan, it appears from 6:21 PM IST to 7:37 PM IST.

When the moon is blocked entirely by the Earth’s shadow, as the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, a total lunar eclipse occurs. As total eclipsed moons tend take on a reddish hue, they are called blood moons. Full moon is a phenomenon that full moon occurs twice in a month. When it occurs second time in a month then the second full moon is called a blue moon.

Why is Super blue blood moon special?
Since 31 March 1866, there is a total lunar eclipse during the second full moon of a calendar month. In fact, this time, it’s a blood moon, a blue moon and a supermoon all at once.
